Issa Mendez

Issa Mendez, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on July 30, 1960, Issa lived a life defined by love, compassion, resilience, and unwavering devotion to those she held dear.

At the heart of Issa's life was her love for her husband, Roland Mendez. He was her best friend, confidant, travel companion, and partner in every sense of the word. Together, they shared a life filled with adventure, laughter, and unwavering devotion. The love they shared was evident to all who knew them and remains one of Issa's most beautiful legacies.

She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Marlena Galvan, son-in-law Gabriel Galvan, and their son, Gabriel Adam Galvan; and to her son, Joe Ryan Urby, and son-in-law, Eric Collier. She was also a loving stepmother to Gabriel Mendez and his daughters, Julia and Madelyn; and Aaron Mendez, his wife, Alice Mendez, and their children, Ayan, Alijah, and Alana. Family was the center of Issa's world, and caring for them was her greatest joy.

She was also a beloved sister to Nelia Hillman; Juan Salazar and his wife, Maria Salazar; Carmen Vega and her husband, Joe Vega; and Raul Salazar and his wife, Melissa Salazar. She also leaves behind a cherished niece, three nephews, extended family members, and countless friends whose lives were touched by her kindness, generosity, and friendship.

Issa enjoyed a long and successful career with AT&T, where she built lasting friendships and earned the respect of colleagues through her dedication and work ethic. After retiring, she devoted herself to the people and pursuits she loved most.

To know Issa was to know someone who embraced life with enthusiasm, courage, and love. She possessed a curious mind and adventurous spirit, always eager to explore new places, meet new people, and experience all that life had to offer. She found joy in traveling the world, learning about different cultures, and creating memories that would last a lifetime. A gifted storyteller through her scrapbooks, she carefully preserved family milestones, vacations, and everyday moments, creating treasures that will be cherished for generations.

Issa was also a passionate advocate for others, especially those who felt unheard or unseen. She believed deeply in treating people with dignity, compassion, and respect, and never hesitated to use her voice to help those who did not have one of their own. Whether supporting a friend, encouraging a loved one, or standing up for what she believed was right, she led with empathy, conviction, and a genuine desire to make a difference.

She had a special way of bringing people together. Her warmth, laughter, strength, and generous heart made everyone feel welcome and loved. She was often the person others turned to for encouragement, wisdom, or simply a listening ear. Her presence lit up a room, and her kindness left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

If there is one way Issa will be remembered, it is for her curious mind and adventurous spirit. She never stopped seeking new experiences, learning new things, and finding joy in the world around her. She viewed life as an adventure to be embraced and believed the best memories were made through exploring, connecting, and sharing those experiences with the people she loved. She taught us to live fully, love deeply, and never stop being curious about what lies ahead.

Though she is no longer with us, the love Issa gave, the memories she created, and the lives she touched will continue to live on through all who were fortunate enough to know her.

A Memorial Vigil Service will be held at Porter Loring Mortuary - North, 2102 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, TX 78232, US, on July 30, 2026, at 1:00 pm with visitation to begin at 12:00pm.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, 102 Lorenz Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209, US, on July 31, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
