On June 28, 2025, J passed from this earth and went to be with his Savior, Jesus. His family and loved ones miss him, but we are all pleased to know he is enjoying the fulfillment of our hope as Christians, which is to be face-to-face with God.
Born to Hilbert and Zella Long, of Tipton, Iowa, J graduated from Tipton High School, served in the United States Air Force, then went on to study the Bible at the Fundamental Bible Institute in Los Angeles, California. There, J met his wife, Marjorie, and the two settled in Whittier, California and raised a family of 11 children together, before moving to The Woodlands, Texas in 2000, then San Antonio, Texas in 2010. J was an incredible husband to Marjorie (they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on June 10, 2025!). He was father to 11 children, grandfather to 37 grandchildren, and great-grandfather to 28 great-grandchildren (and counting!), not to mention all the people throughout his life who looked to him as “dad”. During his life, he provided for his large family through pastoring a church, then worked as a machinist making molds for plastics and all kinds of metal work for the balance of his career.
J loved his Savior, Jesus, and always looked for opportunities to share the life and love that Jesus offers us with everyone he knew.
J is survived by his wife, Marjorie, 10 of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and the untold number of friends and loved-ones who will miss him deeply.
Marge would love to receive condolences through email, social media, texts, phone calls and even scheduled visits to her home, so feel free to reach out.
A Graveside service will take place on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at 10:15 a.m., at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas, with interment to follow.
