

He was born August 2, 1933, in Dallas, to Freddie and Geneva Smith.
After graduating from Forest Avenue High School, in Dallas, he entered the US Marine Corps and proudly served as a Lance Corporal in Korea, with the 1st Marine Division Drum and Bugle Corps, during combat operations from 1953 to 1955.
When he returned to the States, he attended Southern Methodist University before embarking on a nearly 50 year career in the automobile dealership industry, working as an auditor, business manager, and chief financial officer. Jack was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Benson Management Company from 1980 to his retirement in 2002.
He also sat on the advisory boards of San Pedro Bank, Groos Bank, Kelly Field National Bank, and Benson Financial Corporation. Jack was an honored member of the President's Council of the Benson Automotive World, and a member of the Texas and San Antonio Automobile Dealers Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his only brother, Kenneth Eugene Smith.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Annette L. Smith; children, Pamela Payne, Laura Harm, Kevin Smith, and Stephanie Conway; grandchildren, Shon Hill, Candice Hale, Brittany and Justin Harm, and Cherish Payne; great-granddaughter, Samantha Hale; sister-in-law, Annie Golightly Smith; numerous nieces and nephews.
