Jack A. White, age 56, passed away peacefully at home after a long struggle with Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy on September 10, 2022. Jack was born in San Antonio on July 11, 1966, to parents, Karen Mollenhoff and Jack Barrett White. At six weeks old the family moved to Hawaii, home to his mother, and 2 years later the family grew with the addition of his brother, Scott. When Jack was six years old, the family returned to live on his father’s family property in San Antonio. His growing up years were ideal for boys. Having free reign to roam and explore on the family property, which is now Jack White Park. Jack attended St. Luke’s Episcopal School, San Antonio Academy and Alamo Heights High School. His days at the Academy were among his favorites. Jack received his B.A. from Austin College in 1988 with a double major in History and English. It was here that he met his wife Kellie Heath, whom he married on March 14, 1992. His pursuit of higher education continued with the achievement of a Masters in History from UTSA and culminated with the granting of a PhD. in Sociology from UNT. Jack taught at several colleges and universities in the San Antonio and Dallas areas as well as in Kansas. Jack and Kellie had two sons during Jack’s graduate school years, Kye and Lang. His family referred to him as “The Keeper of the Wisdom”. He was always ready to share his knowledge, insights, and opinions on any subject, be they of consequence or trivial. Often being reminded by his children that to answer a question didn’t require a PBS special but instead a more concise response will do. A passion filled debate could engage him like nothing else! Jack was a lifelong learner and so enjoyed reading about all types of subjects. Texas History was his favorite. He also loved cooking, hunting, watching college football and trips to Port Aransas with his extended family. His greatest source of joy and pride was from and for his children. He would brag on them every chance he got! Jack’s faith was born when they were, and grew among the friendship and counsel of those he worshipped with at Preston Road Church of Christ and Northside Church of Christ. His heart was with God when he passed.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jack Barrett White. Jack is survived by his mother Karen White; his wife, Kellie White; his sons, Kye and Lang; his brother Scott White and sister-in-law Akiko; and many beloved extended family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a memorial donation to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
