She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Lt. Col. Norman C. Cox, USAF (Ret.), her daughter, Catherine Thompson and her brother, Sidney Glenn Myers, Jr.
She is survived by her son, Norman G. Cox and wife, Diane; her daughter, Connie Cox; her son-in-law Charles Thompson; grandchildren, Casey Thompson, Debbie Thompson Grice and her husband Nathan Grice; and her great-grandchildren, Sebastian and Tori Thompson.
She was born August 30, 1924 in Camden, Arkansas, of Sidney Glenn Myers and Nellie Green Myers. She spent her formative years in Shreveport, Louisiana, attending Creswell Elementary School and C. E. Byrd High School. She attended Stephens College in Missouri for a year, then transferred to LSU, where she joined Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She was graduated in 1946 with a bachelor's degree in Sociology.
She married Norman C. Cox that same year. He joined the Army Air Corps, and they began a military life.
While he was off flying for his country, she served in her own way, holding down the home front and raising three rambunctious children. She handled the multitude of relocations with great aplomb.
After her husband retired from the military as a Lt. Col., and when her children were in high school, she returned to college and earned a BA in Social Studies and a Master's in Education, becoming a guidance counselor and educational diagnostician in 1971.
She taught at St. Vincent's Academy in Shreveport, and became their guidance counselor. She finished her education career as an independent contractor educational diagnostician for the State of Texas.
They moved to Air Force Village I in San Antonio in December 1990 and to Village II in July 1991, where they spent their final years surrounded by dear friends and attentive staff.
She had numerous hobbies, including bridge, volunteer work, and line dancing.
She and Norm traveled extensively around the world, including many family trips and long summer excursions in their motor home with their beloved grandchildren. She was the epitome of selfless devotion to her family.
One of her friends at AFV nicknamed her "Sparky"--- a fitting tribute to her ever-present bright smile.
