Jackson Allen Mohr, age 13, passed away on Thursday, April 22, 2021 in San Antonio, TX after having given the gift of organ donation to other families in need. He was born July 30, 2007 in Phoenix, Arizona to Erica Lee (Luna) Mohr and Timothy Allen Mohr.
Jackson attended Julia Newton Aue Elementary School where he participated in the Early Act Club, was a member of the Cub Scouts Pack 12, the chess club, the military kids club, and played viola in 5th grade. He was awarded the President’s Award for Educational Excellence upon his 5th grade graduation.
Jackson attended middle school at Texas Military Institute, where, among other activities, he was involved in the Corp of Cadets. In addition to winning Cadet of the month and Cadet of the semester in 6th grade, Jackson won Cadet of the month, semester, and YEAR in 7th grade during the 2020-2021 school year. Because the Corp simply did not provide someone like Jackson with enough to do he also kept busy with the Raider Team, the Rifle Team (where he was voted the best drilled individual in 6th grade), and played football, basketball, baseball, ran track, and participated in the Robotics Club, the Pickleball Club, and the Gardening Club at TMI. On top of all of these extracurricular activities he kept up with his studies and was inducted into the TMI chapter of the National Junior Honor Society in November 2020.
Of all of his many interests Baseball was at the top of the list. Beginning with Little League in Boerne playing T-ball he moved on to play select baseball with the San Antonio Lobos organization when he was 10. He continued with Lobos until he turned 13 when he joined the Boerne Tribe for his 13U spring season. He devoted countless hours to perfect his game and constantly worked to be better the next day. When he didn’t have a baseball available a tennis ball was a fine substitute; we will forever miss the sound of that tennis ball bouncing off the side of the house while Jackson drilled with his pancake glove to improve his hands.
He was preceded in death by his great Grandpa, Charles Delmas; great Opa, Warren Mohr; great Grandma, Mary Sewell; and uncle, Monk (Joe Delmas).
Jackson is survived by his parents, Staff Sergeant Tim and Erica Mohr; sister, Bianca Mohr Cheese Please; great Grandmas, Virginia Delmas and Edna Mohr; Opa, Gary Mohr; Oma, Robin Opel-Mohr; Popo CMsgt Ramiro Valdez, USAF (Ret.); Nana, Patricia Valdez; Grandpa, Robert Luna; Grandpa, Horacio Davila; Grandma, Teresa Gonzalez Davila, as well as numerous extended family members and a lifetime of friends, fellow cadets, baseball enthusiasts, and educators who will miss him dearly.
Though he was with us for only 13 years, this young man’s enthusiasm for life, kindness towards others, love for family, friends, and strangers alike, as well as his strong desire to do what’s right have made a lasting impact on those who had the opportunity to know him. As a result of that impact, several initiatives are in place which Jackson’s family would like to share additional details about.
First, a petition has been started by one of Jackson’s classmates on Change.org to formally recognize April 22 as Jackson Mohr Day. More information can be found at the following link: https://www.change.org/p/please-ask-san-antonio-mayor-ron-nirenberg-to-create-jackson-mohr-day
Second, the MohrHeartAwareness initiative intends to bring additional awareness to heart screenings for teenagers through the August Hearts organization. This initiative’s Facebook page is here: https://www.facebook.com/MohrHeartAwareness/
Third, a donation page has been created for Jackson’s family in an effort to ease the burden of Jackson’s hospitalization and ancillary expenses. That page may be found here: https://gofund.me/a2049a32
Finally, a baseball tournament in honor of Jackson is going to be hosted in 2022 which will be called the JM22 Bash at D-BAT in Kerville. Information pertaining to that tournament may be found here: https://b-m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1497641773912410&id=100009998045753&__tn__=%2As%2AsH-R
A celebration of Jackson’s life was held at Nelson Wolff Memorial Stadium on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 beginning promptly at 2:22 PM, in honor of Jackson’s baseball number. A recording of that service may be viewed below. The Mohr family encourages friends and family to continue to celebrate Jackson’s life and honor his memory by considering WWJD – What would Jackson do?
