Jacky "Jack" McClain—also affectionately known as “Jerome” by friends and family in Macon, Georgia—a cherished husband, loving father, and decorated veteran, passed away on May 15, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas, after a valiant battle with stomach cancer. Born on September 20, 1970, in Macon, Georgia, Jack grew into a man of exceptional character, widely recognized for his wisdom, generosity, and a sense of humor that could light up any room.
Faith played a central role in Jack's life. From a young age, he was a dedicated member of Greater Bellevue Baptist Church in Macon, Georgia, where he actively participated in Sunday School, sang in the choir, and served as an usher.
Jack's journey of excellence began when he enlisted in the United States Air Force, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant. Jack's patriotism and valor were evident as he served two tours in Afghanistan and one in Iraq, ultimately earning the honor of being recognized as a Veteran. After serving 21 years in the Air Force, Jack’s commitment to excellence and service continued in the classrooms of the South Texas Vocational Institute as he dedicated himself to the study of HVAC systems, graduating at the top of his class.
Jack was a man of many passions. He found solace in the great outdoors, whether he was casting a line into a tranquil lake or nurturing his garden with a green thumb that could coax life from even the most stubborn of soils. Jack's adventurous spirit led him to explore the art of distilling his own alcohol, a testament to his belief that life was to be experienced fully and with an open heart.
A sports enthusiast, Jack's loyalty to the Steelers and Lakers was unwavering. His spirit of competition was matched only by his spirit of camaraderie, as he shared these passions with friends and family alike.
Jack's greatest pride, however, was his family and he was always known to say how much he loved his mother. He is survived by his devoted wife, Nicole, who stood by him through every high and low and his legacy will continue through his children, Darius and Nia, who will carry forward his wisdom and kindness. He is also survived by his mom and dad Darlene McClain Lane and Milton “Harold” Lane, his brother, Stacy Lane, his father Jackie Harper, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.
Those who knew Jack will remember him as a generous soul, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a laugh. His advice was sought after by many, because it was delivered with insight and a gentle wit that made even the most challenging situations seem manageable. Jack's presence was a gift to all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his absence will be deeply felt.
