

Corporal Jacob Rudeloff Fleischer, U. S. Army, was killed in action near Deh Rawod in Afghanistan on 24 November 2004 while on a patrol with the 2nd Platoon, Company C, 2nd Battalion, 5th Infantry Light, which is operating as a part of the 3rd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division Light.
Jacob was born on 2 January 1979 in Creve Coeur, MO, a suburb of Saint Louis. Jacob grew up in Manchester, MO, also a suburb of Saint Louis, and graduated from Parkway South High School in 1997.
He attended Truman State University in Kirksville, MO, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications on 4 August 2001. He then studied Political Science at the University of Missouri Saint Louis when in late 2002 he decided to enlist in the U. S. Army with the rank of Specialist.
He was trained as infantryman and then as a paratrooper at Fort Benning, GA, before joining the 25th Infantry Division Light at Schofield Barracks. Company C, 2nd Battalion Light, 5th Infantry deployed to Afghanistan on 1 May 2004 and has been engaged in security and assistance missions since their arrival.
He has been awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Parachutist's Badge. He was posthumously promoted from Specialist to Corporal.
Jacob is survived by his parents, Sarah Jane Fleischer and Colonel Harold C. Fleischer, III, U. S. Army Reserve, Retired, of San Antonio, TX; brother, Harold C. Kurt Fleischer, IV, of St. Louis, MO; grandmother, Betty French Fleischer of Harrodsburg, KY; grandmother, Sally Ellinger of Staunton, VA; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
