Jaime S. Quintanilla, 78, passed away on March 29, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas. Jaime was born in Kingsville, Texas to Jaime and Ventura Quintanilla on May 15, 1945. He lived on the Laureles Ranch, a subdivision of the King Ranch. Jaime started working in the summers when he was 8 years old; some of his duties were caring for the horses, livestock, and doing manual duties. He loved the ranch life and one of his greatest enjoyments was being a cowboy like his father.
He graduated from Mary Carroll High School located in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1963. His favorite sport was baseball. He played in a private semi-professional baseball league for many years and participated in numerous tournaments. Jaime’s father helped build the baseball field and stands that were used during games. His favorite position was pitcher, and his father helped train him.
After graduation, Jaime went to Del Mar Tech Vocational College to become an auto mechanic. No sooner had he found employment then he was drafted into the United States Army on November 9, 1966. He served in Vietnam and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. He was a Veteran and was very proud of his military service.
Upon his return from military duty, he married Bernice A. Quintanilla on October 12, 1968 in Corpus Christi, Texas at Holy Family Catholic Church. Jaime and Bernice decided to live in Portland, Texas to raise their three children. Jaime attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and was a devout Roman Catholic. He worked as a mechanic for Firestone for over 27 years and retired in 1993. During this time, he cared for his father who was an amputee due to renal failure. He later cared for his mother who was blind and had Alzheimer’s disease. He cared for both his parents until their deaths. After his parents’ deaths, he still desired to work and worked part time as a security guard for over 5 years.
Jaime is preceded in death by his parents Jaime and Ventura Quintanilla. Jaime is survived by his loving wife Bernice A. Quintanilla, his children Adrian Jaime Quintanilla (Spouse Eduardo Sanchez-Quintanilla), Eric James Quintanilla and Christopher John Quintanilla. He is also survived by his siblings Millie Mosher and Israel Quintanilla, along with a multitude of caring cousins.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday 24 April 2024 at 8:30-9:00 AM with a Rosary at 9:00–9:30 AM and Catholic Mass at 9:30 AM-10:30 AM
Location will be at Nuestra Senora de San Juan de Los Lagos 1705 Frio St Corpus Christi, TX 78417.
A procession will begin after mass to Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery 9974 IH-37 Corpus Christi, TX 78410 where Military Honors will be performed at 11:00 AM.
The family of Jaime Quintanilla wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Jaime’s medical care team at Audie L. Murphy Veteran’s Hospital and NE Methodist Hospital. We are grateful to all family and friends who prayed deeply for his health and well-being. We are also thankful to all family, friends and clergy that visited him and counseled with him during this grave period in his life.
