James Thomas Byrd

James Thomas “Tom” Byrd born April 15, 1921 in Ladoga, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2014 in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Ladoga High School and Indiana University. Tom served in the military, earned a Purple Heart for wounds on Anzio Beachhead, Italy. He represented the W. A. Sheaffer Pen Co. in San Antonio, TX for 35 years. Tom married Ethel Byrd in 1955 and was married for 45 years before her passing in October 2000. He was a member for over 50 years with the Ladoga Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and Alzafar Shrine. He also had a membership in the Petroleum Club and a life member of the San Antonio Gun Club. Tom was a member of the Alamo Heights Rotary Club since 1956.

Survivors include his son, Arthur Cerna & wife, Sandy, niece, Diana Long & husband, Johnnie, and other nieces & nephews, Kim Greenee, Karen Byrd, Brian Byrd, Lisa Byrd Coleman, Darren Schroyer, Dustin Schroyer, and Tommy Schroyer.

Memorial services will take place with military honors at 3:00 p.m. Monday, January 26, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation. Condolences may be offered at www.sunsetfuneralhomesa.com.
