Sgt. James A. Carpenter USMC (ret.), of Utopia, Texas, entered into rest November 22, 2010. He was born December 14, 1949 in San Antonio, Texas. Sgt. Carpenter proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. James graduated from Our Lady of The Lake University with a Masters degree in Social Work. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved camping, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed cooking and was always making people laugh. James loved his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley C. Carpenter and nieces, Shelli and Laura Eberwein. Survivors include his sons, Jared James Carpenter and Gregory James Carpenter; his mother, Emma Lee Carpenter; sisters, Patricia Eberwein (Larry) and Mary Weeks; stepsons, Mark A. Ornelas and Domingo Herrera; his granddaughter, Jaelynn Rose Carpenter and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Friday, November 26, 2010 from 4PM to 9PM at Sunset Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at 9:30AM at Sunset Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
