James Chang, born August 9, 1936, of San Antonio, died March 24, 2021, surrounded by his loving wife and daughter. James ‘Jimmy’ moved to Taiwan in his teens and eventually became a teacher. He met his wife Jan Lee in Taiwan and in the early 70s, they immigrated to the United States. Jimmy worked very hard until retiring in his 60s, opening restaurants all over the US, including Rexburg, ID and Salt Lake City, UT.
Jimmy had a variety of interests. He loved to read about Chinese politics and tending to his flowers, especially orchids and gardenia. He played several instruments just a little bit, including the drums. Jimmy loved to eat Chinese and Vietnamese food. And no trip out and about was complete without his hat—he always insisted on wearing his hat.
Jimmy was a kind man and loved to spoiled those he loved. He was incredibly charming and his good humor made people laugh out loud, feel comfortable and welcomed. He was the most fun-loving, goofy, generous, awesome, handsome and adorable husband and father. James is loved and survived by his wife, Jan Lee Chang, son, Jeff Chang and daughter, Dr. Pepe Lee Chang.
