James, Thomas and I have been devastated for this past week. When I met you in 2001, I was most impressed with your confidence and sense of self. Both Thomas and I cannot even yet understand, but you were a unique and beautiful force and we are diminished by your absence. Ive never been good with wordsor art for that matter. James Craig wason both fronts. He was the yin to my yang. Im not quite sure how we became friends at Hotchkiss, but senior year he barreled into my life like a hurricane and turned it upside-down. I was forever changed. I have been reflecting on my times with James over the last few days and through my tears and grief, all I can do is smile in spite of the pain. James made me laugh when sometimes all I wanted to do was cry. Hes still doing that to me today. I have so many wonderful memories of James: from our times huddled around a campfire at one of the Hotchkiss cabins to his epic visit to Bermuda. In every single snapshot in my mind, we are laughing. Im not talking about a giggle or a snickerIm talking about all-out, belly-aching, laugh-until-you-cry kind of laughing. Usually it was over something silly that one of us did: like me falling down a waterfall head-first and getting stuck between two rocksor James playfully knocking branches on a tree, only to have a piece fly off and hit someone in the forehead and knock them out cold. That was our luck. We were young; we were clumsy; and together we were free to laugh at our own flaws. When James came to visit me in college, I dont think I went to a single class (sorry mom). I can remember this time vividly. James was all about living in the moment. Lets just go to Busch Gardens, he said. And so we did. And we got on one of the roller coasters there and rode it back-to-back-to-back 9 times. The operator told us he thought it might be a record and wondered how we didnt get sick. I was too busy laughing to even think about feeling nauseated. My love for James was pure. It was never tainted with the conflicts that go hand-in-hand with a passionate love affair. It was simple and uncomplicated. I miss you, James.

Shocked and sad to hear about James. I studied with him in Spain and he had such a wonderful sense of humor. My condolences to his family.

James was the most kind, gentle and sensitive free spirit. Full of light and love. He was a talented artist with an eye for innovation and an ear for music and a love of a life lived well. He graced our lives with his pure light and amazing energy. Though a part of myself passes with James, at the same time, James will continue to live on with Ruby and I in memory and fond story, and continue to be a source of companionship and solace . James, move on towards the light and look for my mom -- she's expecting you! Though you both left us much too soon, life is but the twinkling of an eye and we'll all be together again soon! Thank you James for gracing our lives with yours. You were loved Oh so loved loved utterly unconditionally. .

James was my very first friend at Saint Mary's Hall. I remember to this day his amazing imagination and wonderful sweet spirit when we were very young- I was happy to run into him in San Antonio as adults and see that both were still in tact. He will be missed greatly-forever remembered- and I am deeply sorry Dr. & Mrs. Craig, Ann and Andrew for your loss.
