He was born and raised in San Antonio.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lucille Bolner Cross; and 3 sons, James Ray Cross and wife, Vicki, Frank Cross, Allan Cross and wife, Doria; along with grandchildren, Candice and Clark Skoby, Jimmy, Allan and wife, Monica, Kathleen, Brandi, Beth, Josh and Jacob Cross; one great grandchild, Karolyn Skoby.
James graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1943. He began work in the San Antonio Western Union Office as a messenger boy on roller skates, working his way to Telegraph Operator.
James finished his career as Purchasing Agent for Colonial Cake Company.
In retirement, James taught himself computer science and remained active for many years.
Throughout his life, he was a man of service, taking care of many people, especially at the end of their lives.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Alhambras. James would have been 82 on December 9th.
