

James Andrew Cuellar went home to the Lord on January 16, 2015 at the age of 82 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He was born in Terrell, Texas on May 24, 1932 to Celia Gamez and James A. Cuellar.
A Korean War veteran, he was a Gunnery Sergeant and sharpshooter in the Marine Corps. In 1956 he joined the San Antonio Police Department and retired as a Sergeant after 28 years. As a narcotics officer Jimmy was shot serving a warrant where he was later awarded the Purple Heart.
James is survived by the love of his life, Sylvia Gojon Cuellar and his children, Yvonne van Hell, Yvette Elizalde (Pete), Lizette Eckman (James), James A. Cuellar; his grandchildren, Nicole Smith (Jay), Eric van Hell, Patricia Castaneda, James C. Cuellar and Lauren Cuellar; his beloved great-granddaughter, Emma "la traviesa" Smith; step-grandchildren, Pete Elizalde IV, Melissa Cavazos, Jessica Jenkins and their families, his sister, Alicia Harter and many loved extended family members.
Every spare minute of his life Jimmy spent with his family or improving the quality of their lives. He was always there to help any family member or friend that called upon him. Everyone loved his stories from the amazing experiences throughout his life.
James was dearly loved and respected and will be greatly missed. Semper Fi Marine.

A visitation will be held on January 27, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Porter Loring on McCullough Ave.
