James Preston Davidson

Born on December 14,1939 in Fairfield, Alabama, he was the third of four sons born to Newton and Loraine Davidson. He grew up on a small seven-acre farm where his strong work ethic and love for the land were forged and nurtured. After graduating from Samford University, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Jim was stationed at Altus AFB where he first met Debbie Brown. They were married August 14, 1965, in Fort Worth Texas. Soon after, his new duty assignment sent Jim and Debbie overseas to London England, where they balanced work, travel, and time spent with friends.

Jim proudly spent one year at Nakhon Phanom, Thailand during the Vietnam War. He was reassigned from Southeast Asia to the much cooler climate of Great Falls Montana, where Brad was born. Soon after, he was transferred overseas to Wiesbaden Germany, for four years, where Kim and Mark were born. Jim achieved the rank of Captain before transitioning over to his 25 years of Civil Service working for the Commissary Agency, eventually settling down in San Antonio and retiring in 2001.

Outside of work, Jim was passionate about spending time with family, and the many fishing trips; especially the many trout fishing trips to Missouri with his good friend Jim Shelton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Newton and Loraine Davidson; brothers, John Davidson and Donald Davidson; his mother-in law, Maris Brown; and his father-in-law, E.Y. Brown Jr.

His legacy lives on through his surviving family: his wife of 61 years, Deborah Davidson; his son, Bradley Davidson, daughter-in-law Loretta, and great-granddaughter Shea; his daughter Kim Davidson Place, son-in-law Philippe, and grandchildren Remy and Alex; son, Mark Davidson, and grandchildren Marissa and Scotlynn; brother, Joe Davidson; sister-in-law, Linda; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Jim will always be remembered best known for his love of friends and family, devotion to God and to his country and those who served, his generous heart, and his quiet wisdom.

A celebration of Jim Davidson’s life will be held on July 15, 2026, at 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and will be honorably laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jim’s memory to Tunnels to Towers or Wounded Warrior’s.
