James Gerard Donnelly

James Gerard Donelly, born June 30, 1953 was called home to be with the Lord on August 2, 2016 in San Antonio, Texas. James was born to James and Eileen Donnelly in Brooklyn, New York. He was a devoted husband to his soul mate Patty, and a loving partner to his wife Irene. He dearly loved his six children: Robin, Michael, Elizabeth, James, Emily, and Douglas. He relished whether his children called him Daddy, Dad, Pop or Mr. Jim. It didn't matter what they called him, his greatest honor, joy and pride was simply being their parent. They were his greatest gifts. He was also grateful for and proud of his two sons-in-laws Vinny and Alan for the love and devotion they have shared with his two oldest daughters. They are both genuinely wonderful me, husbands and dads. He was also the very proud grandfather to four girls and two boys: Brandon, Dylan, Alison, Annaliese, Caitlyn, and Cecelia. He relished the moniker Grandpa like a warm embrace, and the grandchildren could always make him smile or bring him a hearty laugh. He especially enjoyed talking with his grandchildren and learning new things from them. Their academic and athletic successes and social growth reassured him that they are on the right path towards becoming wholesome and responsible adults. He is also survived by his loyal companions Bitsy and Sunny. He loved coffee and Fox news, a good debate and sitting on the porch until 3 a.m. talking with whomever was awake.

The Visitation will be Monday, August 8, 2016 at Sunset North Funeral Home 910 North Loop 1604 E. from 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. The Mass of Resurrection will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 20523 Huebner Rd. Arrangements under the direction of Sunset North Funeral Home, San Antonio, TX.
