
He was born in Carroll County, Mississippi of John Henry and Susan Ada Boon Duke and moved to Texas when he was 9 years old.
Mr. Duke spent his career as a brakeman/conductor for the Southern Pacific Railroad with stations in San Antonio, Corpus Christi and McAllen.
He was preceded in death by: his wife of almost 48 years, Evelyn Augusta McLennan; his daughter, Sandra Kay Duke; and two brothers and one sister, Robert Minter Duke, Cecil Wilfred Duke and Annie Sue Chrisman.
His survivors are: his son, James Henry Duke, Jr. and wife, Virginia, Austin; his daughter, Cathy Gilmore and husband, Jon Rauscher, Dallas; his grandchildren, James Henry Duke III and wife, Dianne, Fort Worth; John Earl Duke and wife, Natsuki Hiratsuka, Wellesley, MA; Evan Gilmore and Elena Rauscher, Dallas; his great grandchildren, James Henry Duke IV, Shellin Marie Duke and Madeline Renee Duke, Fort Worth; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his housekeeper, and friend, Sandee Gompert.
