James Lenard Farris

James L. Farris entered into the loving arms of our Lord after a courageous ten year long battle with cancer on February 1, 2025 at the age of 68. He was lovingly cared for by his daughter Joanna throughout his battle and at the time of his passing.

James was born in Ajo, Arizona on July 21, 1956. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at the age of 19. He spent several years in Central America while in the service before settling down in San Antonio, TX. He worked at the SA Zoo for over fifteen years up until his retirement. James had a strong faith in God, loved his family and was a proud veteran.

James is preceded in death by his parents Samuel Moses Farris, Elouise Farris, brother Marvin J Farris and stepdaughter Carmen Garza. He is survived by his daughter Joanna Garza (husband) George Garza, son Randall Farris, Son Henry Shamdas. Granddaughters Alyssa and Gianna. and mother of his children Carmen Farris. Wife Norma Martinez, stepchildren Norma Jean and John Anthony Garza and several step grandchildren. Brothers Bill Farris, Greg Farris, sister Sue Boykin and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation for James will be held Wednesday, February 26, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Porter Loring Mortuary West, 1710 W. Loop 1604 N., San Antonio, Texas 78251. A funeral service will occur Thursday, February 27, 2025 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Texas Baptist Church, 458 Lanark Drive, San Antonio, Texas 78218. A committal will occur Thursday, February 27, 2025 at 2:15 PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas 78209.
