

James Edwin Franklin, known to friends and family as Jim, passed away on Friday, December 8, 2023 in Round Rock, Texas. He was born January 25, 1934 in Wink, Texas to Mildred Bailey and Louis E. Franklin.
Jim grew up in the West Texas towns of Wink and Smyer before moving with his family to Lubbock as a young man. He attended Texas Tech University and Draughon’s Business College before going to work for the Quicksall-Pryor Company. In 1958, he met the love of his life (Christine “Chick” Dietz) at the Hi-D-Ho Drive Inn in Lubbock. They were married in 1959 and later had two sons before moving to San Antonio in 1977. In San Antonio, he worked for the Wayne Bull Auto Parts Company and Alamo Paint and Wallpaper before going to work as a Controller for San Antonio Brake and Clutch. He worked there until he retired in 2015 at the age of 81.
Jim and Christine attended St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in San Antonio from 1977 until December 2022 when they moved to Round Rock, Texas to be closer to their family.
He loved his children and grandchildren who affectionately called him “Pop,” and he was always part of their activities. He was a good athlete in his youth, and he loved watching his favorite sports teams on television including the Dallas Cowboys, the San Antonio Spurs, the Texas Rangers, and anything related to Texas Tech.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joan Stewart; and brothers, John and Tom Franklin. Jim is survived by his wife of 64 years, Christine Franklin; sons, James Franklin and wife Tamra and Tracy Franklin and wife Sara; grandchildren, Travis Franklin and Michelle Le, Austin Franklin and wife Emily, and Addie Davis and husband Chance; sister, Betty Miller; as well as one great-grandson on the way.
