

James Gordon “Jim” French, a man of gentle strength and unwavering faith, joined his Lord and Savior on April 26, 2026. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and his presence will be deeply missed.
Born October 10, 1943, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to William Edwin and Laura Beatrice (James) French, Jim grew up in Lewisville, Texas. He was an avid hunter, gardener, reader, skier and solid UT football fan. He was the host of frequent barbecues for family and friends.
Jim graduated from Lewisville High School and earned a B.A. degree in business from the University of Texas at Arlington.
He found his calling in the transportation industry. Following earlier positions with household moving businesses in Irving, San Angelo, El Paso, and Austin, Jim joined Scobey Moving and Storage in San Antonio in 1980 and later served as its President for many years. He retired in 2020 after 40 years with the company. Jim was widely respected for his leadership, professionalism and commitment to the industry. He was a past board member and chairman of the Southwest Movers Association and was the 1996 recipient of the Heritage Award. He made many lasting friendships with other Texas movers and related business associates.
In June 2020, Jim was appointed to the Consumer Protection Advisory Committee of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles. He also served on the board of Meals on Wheels San Antonio and the Oakland Heights Homeowners Association. He was a member of Coker Methodist Church and served on various committees through the years.
Jim lived a full and meaningful life, and his legacy will live on in those he loved, mentored and inspired.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marsh Kaye and her husband Floyd Niedecken, nephew Tim Perry, and grandson Ekho French.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife Karen (Haas) French; his children James Cameron French, Cassidy Sistrunk French and James Christian French; his grandchildren; and also many cherished friends and extended family members.
A Memorial service to honor his life will be held on Friday, May 29th at 11 a.m. at Coker Methodist Church, San Antonio, TX.
