In 1960 after basic training I was assigned to Beale AFB, CA. My room mate was a three stripper named Jim Parks. Jim kept me on the straight and narrow path. On two Christmas' we drove home together in his car, splitting the gas, he dropped me off in Chicago and then would head to Rice Lake, Wisconsin. After the holidays he would pick me up in Chicago and then it was non stop back to Beale. Jim was a great room mate and mentor. In 1963 I received orders for Wake Island, It was that or Thule. Thanks to Jim I left there with three stripes. Upon my return to the Mainland I was stationed at Edwards AFB, Ca.  Jim and I spoke about once a month. I was surprised to learn he was still at Beale. Jim was just an all around great guy and I'm happy I was able to serve with him. He will be missed by many.  RIP my friend.

I had looked for you several times over the past 10 or so years. Today, I read your obituary. I wanted to say goodbye and share some thoughts. I worked for you as an Instructor back in the late 70s and very early 80s when you were the Course Chief, Basic and Advanced Officer Courses at the USAF Security Police Academy. You had such a tremendous impact on my successful career - both enlisted and officer, as well as my civilian career. You were the model of class, character, and intelligence.  I used a saying of yours through out my entire police career ..."As Captain James G. Parks would say, it's amazing what you can learn when you read!" When ever I came to your office with a question, problem, or suggestion, you always stopped what ever you were doing to listen. You always made me feel heard. You would also ask me to present solutions to problems when I talked with you. I learned very quickly to never come to you without a well thought out plan or solution. I also carried that philosophy as a leader the rest of my career. I simply wanted to say thank you for what you have always meant to me. David Friedberg, retired Captain  (former master sergeant select under your watch) and Security/Police Chief, Hillsborough County Public Schools. It was a great 42 plus year career, largely due to you and your influence. Rest in peace Major James G. Parks. I salute you now ... and always!

I met Jim Parks in 1990 when our department obtained a working dog from his company.  I attended the school and was very impressed by the expertise & practical knowledge taught to me.  In these 28 years, and many dogs later, we developed a great friendship which I will always cherish.  He indeed was a great man & will be missed immensely.  Condolences from the entire DCP K-9 Unit.  God's speed old friend.

Mr. Parks - a boss, a father figure, an Uncle, and a friend. I had the privelage to work for Mr. Parks for 14 yrs in that time these were the words I would use to describe him.  Truly a great man with a big heart. Will miss you sir, and always remember your kindness and mentorship.

I want to thank God for giving  me the opportunity  to meet Mr Parks.  I met him thru  his best friend Mr Horace Barnes , One day as I was workng for Mr Barnes  Not knowing Mr parks at the time he showed up to do a visit . I will never forget that day . He just brighten  my day with his smile , his interesting conversation but most of all he won my heart when he told me He and his best Friend Mr Barnes were in the military together for so many years and remained friends afterwards  He was a man that No MATTER how bad of a day you were having he knew how to put a smile on you.  He was such a caring and giving man. Mr Barnes and I will miss him dearly. He  was a Hero in my eyes  because  no matter how sick he was feeling he still manage to drive himself in company of his son Jimmy to visit his long time friend better known as more than a friend his Brother. 

Thank you for all your years of Service.

Mr Barnes

To a man that inspired many, but to me he was a true inspiration to bring out the best of one self. With out question he supported and trusted those he taught. He will live on in the trainer's that he made better.
