James Walter Garrett, a cherished son, loving brother, and a beacon of creativity and intelligence, passed away on January 24, 2025, in San Antonio, TX, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on April 21, 1997, at Travis Air Force Base, California, to proud parents David Garrett, Jr. and Alicia Garrett, James, alongside his twin brother Paul, grew up filled with curiosity and a passion for learning that would define his life.
James, known for his kind heart and interesting personality, graduated from Thomas Edison High School where he was not only an academic standout but also shone brightly in the Academic Decathlon, winning district-level competitions and setting a high bar for those who followed. His love for knowledge was only matched by his ability to share it, as evidenced by his fluent command of American Sign Language, a skill he learned to connect more deeply with others.
He furthered his education at San Antonio Community College in Texas, where he earned an Associate of Arts Degree. James's academic journey was a testament to his intelligence and his unwavering commitment to personal growth.
Professionally, James dedicated himself as a Personal Assistant within the Physician Association, a role in which he was deeply respected and valued for his dedication and work ethic. His friends and neighbors will remember him as a pillar of support, always ready to assist with a smile.
James's interests were as eclectic as they were profound. A true film aficionado, he had a special fondness for horror films. His passion led him to participate in film festivals, where his remarkable costume designs drew crowds and admiration. His talent in makeup and theatrics, honed through college courses, enabled him to create stunningly realistic characters that became the highlight of many events.
His family, including his father David, mother Alicia, and brothers Paul, Joshua, and Jake, knew James as a beacon of light in their lives. His creativity, intelligence, and kindness brought joy and inspiration to every family gathering, and his absence will leave an irreplaceable void in their hearts.
As Albert Einstein once said, "Our death is not an end if we can live on in our children and the younger generation. For they are us, our bodies are only wilted leaves on the tree of life." James's spirit, his zest for life, and his impact on those around him will continue to live on in the memories of all who knew him. James once said, "It was an honor to have lived a childhood seeing Hugh Jackman play Wolverine for 17 years," a comment that generated 116 replies.
James will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of encountering his kind and intelligent soul. His interesting perspective on life, his warmth, and his unwavering positivity in the face of adversity will remain an inspiration to us all.
