James Lowell Goode passed away from a two year struggle with cancer into his eternal rest in the early morning hours of January 13, 2025 at the age of 86. He was born on June 2, 1938, in Fort Worth, Texas to William Boone Goode and Sinah May Clarkson Goode. (Both preceded him in death.) Lowell was the middle child with one brother, William Boone Goode, Jr. (preceded in death) and one sister, Sinah Louise Goode (of Arlington, Texas).
Lowell grew up in Fort Worth, Houston, and Dallas where he graduated from high school. He entered Texas Christian University for a bachelor's degree in Accounting. There he met the love of his life, Karle Ann Couchman, and after graduation married her. They began a life together that spanned 6+ decades.
Shortly after marriage he entered the U.S. Army as a first Lieutenant in the Army Finance Corp. He was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia where he and Karle Ann had their first child Larry Duane (of Austin). After serving his country for two years, he and his family moved to Chicago for his first job at Alexander Grant (Grant Thornton). While in Chicago he and Karle Ann had their daughter, Janet Marie (Doggett, preceded in death). He soon obtained a transfer back to Texas and they settled in Dallas where they had their third child, James Paul (of Ottawa Canada). Another job opportunity brought him and his family to San Antonio. Prior to his retirement he was a Partner with Carneiro Chumney & Co.
Lowell had an illustrious career as a Certified Public Accountant and especially enjoyed being an expert witness. He was passionate about many things. He loved flying airplanes and even owned a small engine one that he piloted, to the dismay of his wife. He was an avid music lover and sang for years in the Coker Methodist Church choir and the San Antonio Choral Society. He also spent hours on the golf course and had the best score of his life one month before passing away!
Lowell’s passing leaves many who loved and admired him, including family members in Texas, Massachusetts, and Canada, and many friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Coker Methodist Church with a reception following.
