He was preceded in death by his mother, Bernice Mildred McNeill; father, James Warren McNeill, Sr.; brother, Robert E. McNeill; and granddaughter, Jordan Rae Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carol McNeill; brothers, Chuck McNeill (Beverly), and Howard McNeill (Chris); children, Jamie Carothers (Jason), Tammy Wike (Fred), and Tisha Whitmire (Kevin); grandchildren; great-grandchildren; cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jim joined the United States Navy in 1965 where he served his country during the Vietnam War. He went on to be a firefighter for 20 years with SAFD. Jim enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, cooking and watching movies with his wife.
A Committal service will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd. San Antonio, Texas 78232. Reception to follow at Porter Loring Mortuary North 2102 North Loop 1604 East San Antonio, Texas 78232
