He was born August 23, 1918 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Edward J. Rogers and Laura Knotts Rogers.
He attended the University of Missouri at Columbia, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.
During World War II, he served in the United States Navy.
He had a career in wholesale appliance sales and had been the owner of James Rogers Company, Manufacturers' Representatives.
Mr. Rogers was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church for over thirty years. He was a member of the Mercury Club of Kansas City and a longtime member of the Bexar Kiwanis Club.
He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Betty Ann Yankee Rogers, by his sons, James Gordon Rogers, Jr. of Lakeland, Florida and William Edward Rogers of San Antonio, and by his grandchildren, Neal James Rogers of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Sarah Ann Rogers of New York City.
