James W. Russell (Jim) was born on September 26, 1935 in Amarillo Texas to parents Odie and Lela Russell. He passed away on June, 7, 2021 in San Antonio, Texas. He attended Amarillo High School and the University of Houston. Jim was an avid golfer up until the last few years of his life, when health problems prevented him from continuing to play. Jim worked as a property and casualty claims manager. Jim worked several years with Hartford but most of his career was with USAA where he would become a branch manager for the Houston claims office prior to his retirement.
Jim was also an avid reader. He had a huge collection of Tom Clancy books. He also loved to work cross-word puzzles. Every morning at breakfast and evening for dinner, Jim could be found at the dining room table working a cross-word puzzle. Jim was alert and witty even at the age of 85. He always found a way to crack a joke to make you laugh or smile.
He was preceded in death by his parents Odie and Lela, and his wife of over 40 years, Jan. He is survived by his brother Charlie and his wife Kathy of Georgetown, Texas, his three children Debbie, Randy and Mike, his three stepsons, Matt, Eric and his wife Jennifer, and Sean and his grandchildren, Taylor, Brendan, Aiden and Cameron.
