James became a resident of San Antonio in 1966.
He is survived by his wife, Carole; son, Scott; sisters, Elaine Stethem and Judith Hatfield; brother, Jack Dena Stethem; and close friend, Larry Petru.
James indulged in many diverse interests and hobbies, one of which was his collection of Coca-Cola memorabilia.
James and Carole were pioneers in establishing the Cellular On Patrol COP neighborhood watch program in Braun Station.
James was a supporter of the Alzheimer's Association. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Alzheimer's Association, 7400 Louis Pasteur Dr., #200, San Antonio, Texas 78229, on behalf of Carole Stethem.
