

James K. Stewart, M.D., age 92, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2016 in San Antonio. He was born on August 27, 1923 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Goode and Elsie Stewart. He graduated from the University of Arkansas School of Medicine, Class of 1946. He completed his internship and residency at Robert B. Green hospital in San Antonio. While in the U.S. Army, he rose to the rank of Captain and served as a physician at various bases in the San Antonio area and across Texas. He married the former Louise Smyth on July 26, 1947. Dr. Stewart began his private medical practice in San Antonio in 1950 and in 1958 he became Clinical Medical Director at the Mobil Oil Beaumont Refinery, where he remained until his retirement in 1984. He was Past President of the Texas Industrial Medical Association; Past President of the Southeast Texas Heart Association; a member of the Beaumont Rotary Club and served as a Director of the Beaumont Salvation Army Board of Directors.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Louise S. Stewart. James is survived by his sons, James K. Stewart, Jr. and wife, Caren and William S. Stewart and wife, Beverly; daughters, Elizabeth L. Stewart and Susanne B. Stewart; 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Elizabeth Gorman.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 5, 2016 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
