

Jim was born in San Antonio, Texas on November 6, 1929, an identical twin of John William (Billy) Thompson. Jim graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1947. He attended Trinity University for 1-1/2 years before entering the Army in 1952 and serving until 1954. After returning home, he started a printing business and continued college at night, graduating from Trinity University in 1959.
In 1964 he founded Thompson Business Forms, Inc. He retired in 1998, turning the business over to his son, David, who changed the name to Thompson Print Solutions.
Jim was an active member of Parkhills Baptist Church since 2017. Previous to that, he was a deacon and active member of Castle Hills First Baptist Church for 51 years. During those years he taught Sunday School to young boys and coached softball.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and played golf for many years. In his younger years he played fast pitch softball in City Leagues. He enjoyed gardening, especially raising roses. For a time, he raised Quarter Horses.
Jim was a loving husband and dedicated father to his children and grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents James H. and Velma Ray Thompson; his first wife of 43 years and mother of his children, Barbara Jane Stumpf Thompson; his eldest son, Kenneth J. Thompson and his twin brother, John W. (Billy) Thompson.
He is survived by his present wife, Nelwyn P. Thompson; children, Jean G. Bourne (Guy); David Wayne Thompson (Terrie), Kevin D. Prather (Priscilla), Jill J. Penny (Walter); grandchildren, Sterling W. Thompson (Kayla), Preston W. Thompson (Scarlett), Trevor W. Thompson, Christian Prather, Hannah Prather, Taylor Penny and Megan Penny; great grandchildren, Hunter and Brody Thompson; nephew, Terry Thompson (Andrea) and niece, Sandy Faught (Ron).
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 26, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
