James was born on October 13, 1954 in Elmhurst, IL to Julius and Eleanor (Pelc) Zitko. He worked in the field of plastic injection molding for 47 years as a Manufacturing Engineer.
James had a passion for metal art, creating animal sculptures, including a lobster that won best of show at the Elmhurst Artists Guild in 1972. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit. He was also a faithful servant to his Lord. James used these qualities to change the lives of those around him, as realized through the stories told by his friends and coworkers.
James adored his family, especially his grandchildren. James was taken too soon from us but we will never forget the light he brought into our lives. He was a loving father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
James is preceded in death by his father Julius. He is survived by his son Christopher (Laurica) Zitko; granddaughters: Antolina & Cristiana Zitko; mother: Eleanor Zitko, sister: Cynthia Zitko. James had many great friends as well as extended family members that he cared for deeply.
Cremation rites have been accorded through Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in San Antonio, TX. Memorial service will take place in James’ home state of Illinois, at Fred C Dames Funeral home in Joliet, IL; date and time TBD.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital (www.stjude.org) or Wounded Warriors Project (https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate) would be appreciated.
