Jan Louise Giles, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2023, after a brave battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). She was born in Phoenix, Arizona, on February 23, 1972, to Jon Gordon Fritch and Teresa Gail Fritch (Melonis).
Jan is survived by her husband, David Giles; their daughters, Camille, Grace, and Lily Giles; her parents, Jon and Teri Fritch; her sisters, Pam Somerville and Katie Staggs; many extended family members; friends; and colleagues, all of whom will miss her greatly.
Jan was married to David Giles on June 7, 1997, in Austin, Texas. They were married for 25 years.
Jan devoted her life to her family and her work. She enjoyed spending time with her three daughters more than anything. She was dedicated, faithful, and fun; after she became sick with ALS she was incredibly brave, tough, and resilient until she passed.
Jan received a degree in landscape architecture from the University of Arkansas and was a licensed landscape architect in the state of Texas. She worked with her friend and partner Aan Coleman for more than 25 years at Coleman & Associates, an Austin-based landscape architecture firm. She loved her work and specialized in projects on university campuses throughout Texas, including many projects at Texas A&M University in College Station.
Jan was also a parent volunteer for the New Zion Youth Choir at Alamo Heights United Methodist Church for more than a decade. She had a passion for participating in the program with her daughters and especially enjoyed the choir's annual summer mission trips.
Jan enriched so many lives during her time here on Earth with her unwavering faithfulness and dedication to those around her. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her but fondly remembered forevermore as one of the most loyal people they have had the honor of knowing.
