Janelle (Jan) Schwartz, age 98, passed away Wednesday morning, May 28, 2025 at Optimum Personal Care in Sugar Land, TX. She was born on November 27, 1926 in her family home under a large sprawling oak tree east of Greenville, Texas near the Shady Grove Community. She is preceded in death by her parents Dave and O.D. (Wall) Alexander, and her husband of 32 years William John (Bill) Schwartz Jr. She is survived by her children Jon Schwartz, and his wife Nell, of Sugar Land, Texas, and her daughter Leslie Hillhouse of Grapevine Texas.
She grew up on the family farm through the great depression raising cows and cotton with her parents. As an only child, she learned independence, hard work, and a deep faith that she carried with her throughout her life. She attended school in a three-room school house in Shady Grove from first through eighth grade, riding a horse named “Old Chock” in order to get to and from school. After graduating from eighth-grade she went “in to town” to complete her education at Greenville High School.
She retired from a 48-year career in Banking and Real Estate to enjoy spending time spoiling her dogs, and traveling. She was a loving mother, a caring friend, and a devoted Christian who blessed all who had the pleasure of meeting her with her warm smile gentle spirit.
A celebration of life will be held in the Rose Suite at Sunset Memorial Park and Funeral Home on Friday, June 6, 2025 at 10:30 AM, with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park beside her husband Bill Schwartz.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Ms. Julia Gasser and the wonderful and caring staff at Optimum Personal Care of Sugar Land, and to the Rev. Terry Houston, Lynnette McLain, and all of the caregivers at Trucare and Aaryn Hospice.
