

We celebrate the life of Janet Gorelnick Carter, who died on January 17, 2009, at the age of 89. Janet was the wife of John R. Carter, Jr. and the daughter of Sam and Rachel Gorelnick. She leaves behind her brother, Mervin Gorelnick; daughters, Judith R. Carter and Ellen Dede Carter Braun; son-in-law, Frank Braun; and extended family members. She also leaves behind her beloved cats and dog. Born and raised in San Antonio, Janet graduated from the "new" Thomas Jefferson High School in 1937. She completed 2 years of college. Janet worked in the family business, Central Boot Company and Shoe Repair, in early life. She followed her love of fashion with a career at Frost Brothers North Star Mall. She also represented the Doncaster clothing line. Janet married Lt. John R. Carter, Jr., in 1942, while he was stationed at Ft. Sam Houston preparing for duty in World War II. They shared love and life until his death in 1965. Janet was an animal lover who practiced her beliefs. She began trapping, neutering, and returning feral cats over 30 years ago. She supported a variety of animal causes and organizations throughout her life.
