
Mrs. Janie Ione Dexter, age 93, of San Antonio, and LBJ Medical Center, Johnson City, TX, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2002. She was born to Mr. and Mrs. Wm. M. Hopkins, Madisonville, Texas, on November 29, 1908.Mrs. Dexter graduated from High School in Madisonville, Texas, in 1927 and attended Baylor University for three years where she met her husband. They were married June 2,1931.She had been a member of Laurel Heights United Methodist Church since 1945. Her favorite duty was to prepare Communion and she served as Communion Steward for many years. She was a charter member of the United Methodist Women and the Altar Guild. Mrs. Dexter also served on the Care and Concern Committee and many other committees. She was a Life Member of the Blue Birds of Methodist Hospital, serving on the Blue Bird Board and did volunteer work in the Gift Shop for many years. She was a member of the Luncheon Group, a Birthday Group, the San Antonio Bar Auxiliary and Philia Club. Mrs. Dexter loved her church, her family and many friends. She was the widow of L. Gordon Dexter who preceded her in death on August 1, 1973. Mrs. Dexter was also preceded in death by her parents, two older brothers, Wm. E. Hopkins and wife, Gussie Morgan Hopkins of Madisonville, TX and O.N. Hopkins, Sr., and wife, Evelyn of Waco, TX. Survivors: nephews, Otho Neil Hopkins, Jr. and wife Betty, Horseshoe Bay, TX, William Park Hopkins and wife, Paula, Cedar Park, TX; nieces, Marilyn Ione McLemore and husband, Glenn, Waco, TX, Mary L. Combel, Plano, TX, Suzanne Muecke and husband, Tommy, Angleton, TX, Harriet Hall and husband, James, Waco, TX; numerous great-nieces, great-nephews and many cousins.
