

Vila Jane "Janie" Seiler Ulbrich, 94, passed peacefully on June 23, 2024, at home surrounded by loved ones, in Schertz, TX. She was born on March 2, 1930, in Bexar County, to Herbert Seiler and Laura Zamzow Seiler.
Janie worked in food service most of her life. While attending Schertz/Cibolo High School, she would spend her lunch break waitressing at Wueste Cafe on 78. Shortly after, she married Leroy "Cotton" Ulbrich in 1946, and had 3 children. While her kids were in school, she worked for SCUCISD, in the cafeteria, and was later promoted to manager of the Schertz Elementary cafeteria. During that time, she received the Buffalo Award for 'Cafeteria Worker of the Year' for 1987-88, and the Recognition and Appreciation for 30 years of Outstanding and Dedicated Service Award. Finally, retiring with 37 years of service to the food service department of the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD. She was a member of the Schertz Volunteer Fire Department -Ladies auxiliary for years, and helped prepare food for the annual fireman suppers.
Janie was known for her immaculate landscaping, doing all her own mowing, weed eating, and gardening. She truly enjoyed spending time with her family, her evening walks and talking with her neighbors.
Janie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leroy "Cotton" Ulbrich, daughter¬in-law Rosamond Vines Ulbrich, grandson Lawrence Ulbrich Jr., brother-in-law Bob Nothstine. Survived by Sons -Wayne (Rosie), Lawrence (Betsy), and Daughter Kathy (Dennis), sister- Patricia Nothstine, Grandchildren - Michael, Sandra, Leslie, Tracy, Arianna, Charles, Chris, and Doug, 11 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Janie touched are welcome to join us at Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Hwy, San Antonio TX 78218, for visitation on Monday, July 1, from 5-8pm. A small visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 2, at 2pm, followed by funeral services at 2:30pm, and graveside service to follow.
