

Jaylene Griggs, age 87, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on November 27, 1937, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Maxine Morris and John Charles Phillips. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Lonnie Phillips. Jaylene is survived by her loving husband, Lee A. Griggs; children (in birth order) sons, Bryan Griggs (Melissa - wife), Darren Griggs, daughter, Jay Griggs; brother, Larry Phillips; grandchildren (in birth order) Alexandria Vento, Caroline Sevening, Kyle Griggs, Ethan Griggs and Isabella Griggs.
Jaylene moved from Bartlesville, OK to Dumas, TX when her dad joined Shamrock Oil. She graduated from Dumas High School in 1956, where she was a twirler and played on the girls basketball team. She was awarded the Pringle Basketball Player of the Tournament Award.
Jaylene met her husband Lee while she was working in Amarillo for Phillips Petroleum. They married in 1962 at the All Faiths Chapel on the campus of Texas A&M University. They moved to San Antonio, TX in 1964 and raised their family in Hollywood Park.
Jaylene was active in Parkhills Baptist Church where she was involved in many groups, including the Wednesday Ladies Lunch Bunch. She loved hosting parties for all holidays and playing all kinds of board games and card games. She also had a love for cooking and sewing.
She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2019. She was able to stay at her home for the duration of her illness, and passed away peacefully while being on Hospice
A Graveside Service will take place on Monday, August 11, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 3:00pm at Parkhills Baptist Church, 17747 San Pedro Ave., San Antonio TX 78232.
