

Jean Rae Facchini, a beloved sister and friend, passed away on May 29, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on March 5, 1950, in Maywood, California to Irven and Vivian Holt and grew up in South San Gabriel, just outside of Los Angeles. She was the youngest of five children and shared a special bond with her twin sister, Judy, who never let her forget that she was the older of the two.
Jean's early years were shaped by a unique blend of religious influences. Although her father was a Mormon until she reached high school, her mother raised her and her siblings in the Church of Christ. Jean cherished the memories of her parents, whose legacy lives on in the hearts of their children. Her adventurous spirit was inherited from her father, a truck driver who traveled coast to coast, possibly inspired by his journey across the United States in a covered wagon in the early 1900s.
In third grade, Jean ambitiously declared her intention to become an atomic physicist, but her mother's practical advice led her to pursue a career as a dietician, aligning with her love for food. She attended Harding (now known as East Los Angeles College) and later earned her master's degree from Pepperdine University.
Jean's life took a pivotal turn when she enlisted in the United States Army. The military life allowed her to live and travel to exotic places, including California, Texas, Virginia, North Carolina, Hawaii, Germany, Spain, Guam, Thailand, and Japan. Jean also traveled extensively throughout Europe, with a particular fondness for Switzerland, Austria, Luxembourg, France, and Belgium. When asked about her favorite vacation spot, she couldn't choose between Hawaii and Europe. In addition to her active duty, she supported each branch of service through her civil service assignments, demonstrating her unwavering dedication to the military community.
Jean had a deep love for animals, especially dogs and birds. Over the years, she cared for various pets, including guinea pigs, finches, parakeets, and an African Grey Cockatiel who spoke German, Spanish, and French. Jean herself was fluent in French, having studied it in high school and college. In her free time, she enjoyed reading and training her dog, Blue, in agility. Although her early-stage Parkinson's disease had caused her to set aside her cross-stitching, she remained active and engaged.
Jean's career highlights included teaching second graders and her work in public affairs with the Army, where she cherished a memorable conversation with a General during her interview. She believed that God's hand was evident in every aspect of her life. Her favorite biblical character was Deborah, and she found solace in her cherished scripture, Philippians 4:8: "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things."
Jean Facchini will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her life was a testament to adventure, love, and unwavering faith.
She is predeceased by her parents, husband, two sisters, a brother and nephew. Jean is survived by her twin sister, Judy Warren; friend, Tammy Lindberg; and numerous extended family and friends.
