

Jean Richards Littleton, born February 3, 1930 in Houston, Texas, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, departed this life, December 25, 2016. She was married for 61 years to Wilbur F. Littleton, Jr. and is survived by her son Rick Littleton, and his wife, Dianne, her daughter, Debra McCloskey, and her son, George Parker Littleton and his wife, Carol: and by eight grandchildren, Stacy Littleton Hoyt and her husband Joel, Lance Littleton and his wife Allye, Blair Hulett and her husband Jimmy, Colton and Chance McCloskey, and Shane Littleton and his wife Emily, Brittany, and Cameron Littleton; and by five great grandchildren, Cooper and Ella Hoyt, Lillian Littleton, Hunter and Parker Littleton. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews Edith and Bill Nance, Eugene and Jan Richards, Mary and John Eastberg, Pattie and Bob McDonald, Trudie Richards; and a host of loving friends and former students.
She was proceeded in death by her beloved parents Dorothy and Charley Richards of Houston, her parents-in-law, Wilbur and Addie Littleton, and her brother Charles E. Richards, Jr. of Houston; her aunts and uncles of Houston George and Mary Dee Cox, Claude and Pattie Harris, and Katherine DuRoss.
Jean graduated from Lamar High School in Houston, attended Mary Baldwin College in Virginia, the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado, and The University of Texas in Austin where she belonged to the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and where she earned her undergraduate degree. She also briefly attended Cambridge University in Cambridge, England and Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio where she earned an M. A. in English and an M. Ed. in Psychology and School counseling.
Saint Mary's Hall played a vital part in her life as she was a teacher and counselor there for 25 years and she deeply touched the lives of a great many young people. Here students affectionately described her as loving, understanding, compassionate, and fun. She taught English, History, Psychology, and Life Skills. In 1983 Jean was appointed Guidance and Counseling program. In 1991 she received the Jamie Armstrong Bennett award which is an honor presented to an outstanding faculty member each year.
She was a member of the Battle of Flowers Association, the Junior League, the Fenwick Club, Le Cub Garden Club, founder of the Veinte Uno Investment Club, and for over 50 years a member of St. David's Episcopal Church where she served on the Vestry.
Jean enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, entertaining friends and tennis and golf. For many years she hosted a Christmas party on December 28th which was her anniversary.
She loved people and good times. Her motto came from Shakespeare, "our perception of the world defines ourselves," and she truly enjoyed life to the fullest.
Honorary Pallbearers will be grandsons Lance Littleton, Shane Littleton, Colton McCloskey, Chance McCloskey; and long-time friends, Thad M. Ziegler and Ellis Wilson, Jr.
