Jeannette Imogene Collins Graham peacefully departed this world on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at the age of 95 years. Pat to most people, a nickname given to her by her father, she was Maw Maw and Mi Mi to her grandchildren who will deeply miss their "Sugar Booger".
Born in Bayside, Texas, on November 15, 1920, to David Collins and Henrietta Sammons, she spent her early childhood in Seguin where her father was Parks Director. After her parents' divorce, she and her two sisters were sent to live with their grandparents in San Antonio on Theo Avenue. She was in the first class to enter the new Burbank HS. At 17 she met and married the love of her life, James Graham. When James was drafted to serve in the Railroad Battalion during the end of WW II, she went with him to Camp Warren in Cheyenne, WY. She returned home after James was shipped out, bought a new home on Drake Avenue and awaited his return. Pat and Jim raised two children there until they realized their dream of building a new home. After being a stay at home mom for many years, Pat returned to work in SAISD. She retired as cafeteria manager at Horace Mann MS, where the best enchiladas and chocolate cake were served every Wednesday.
Pat delighted in going to Las Vegas, playing and winning on the Flaming 7s slots at the Flamingo. She enjoyed cruises and took her children and grandchildren on a family cruise as well as taking each grandchild to Vegas. Pat loved the Spurs, the Cowboys, and the Longhorns. Dear to her were her dogs Bud and Maddie, her pit bull. Pat was generous and always available for her family and friends. She lived for her grandchildren, would pick them up from school, take them to buy treats, and built a swimming pool in her backyard for them. Pat taught her grandchildren many life lessons. She was a wonderful cook. As soon as the weather turned cold a pot of her vegetable beef soup with homemade noodles was ready. She made the best Mac and Cheese.
Pat's claim to fame besides winning $10,000 twice in Vegas was an article and picture in the newspaper about her and her two sisters married to her husband and his two brothers. The picture of the six was on display in her room at Regent Care, where she spent the last three years of her life. She loved playing bingo during the week and dominoes on Sunday. She was voted Valentine Princess by the staff.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James in 1980; her twins, David and Dorothy; and her two sisters, Dorothy and Loretta. Pat is survived by her daughter Nancy York and husband Vic; son Jim; grandchildren, Travis York (Los Angeles), Sarah Jane York Ryan, Chris Graham, and Lauren Graham (McKinney); great grandson Finn Landeros (McKinney); her niece, Janet Graham; and Maddie, her pit bull.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 1, 2016 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Porter Loring Mortuary on McCullough.
