Dr. Jeremiah Johnson, Colonel, U.S. Army (Retired), age 53, passed away unexpectedly on February 17, 2027. A devoted husband, father, son, brother, physician, soldier, and friend, Jeremiah lived a life defined by service, generosity, humor, and deep love for those around him.
Jeremiah was born on September 18, 1972. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1994 and went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in 1998. He specialized in Emergency Medicine and further subspecialized in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, dedicating his career to caring for patients in their most critical moments.
Jeremiah served his country with distinction for 28 years in the United States Army, retiring with the rank of Colonel. Throughout his military career he earned many military awards and held numerous leadership roles, including serving as Assistant Program Director of an Emergency Medicine Residency program. He deployed in support of operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Korea, exemplifying steadfast commitment to both his nation and the soldiers he served alongside.
While Jeremiah’s professional accomplishments were many, his greatest pride and joy were his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Christine; his children, Sarah, Sam, and Stone; his parents, Frederick and Joan; his sisters Priscilla Bruch, Jenny Jones, Carrie Cozart and their families; his sister-in-law Laura and brother-in-law James Sullivan. He was deeply proud of watching his children grow, especially cheering them on at lacrosse and baseball games and celebrating their successes as they matured into accomplished young adults.
Jeremiah had a curious mind and a builder’s spirit. He loved rebuilding and riding motorcycles, woodworking, and creating furniture in his garage. Known as a fixer of all things, he was always ready to take apart, repair, or improve anything he could.
He embraced adventure and the outdoors, enjoying activities ranging from wakeboarding, boating, scuba diving to skiing and pickleballing. He also loved spending time with his dogs—whether taking them on hikes, walking them on the beach, or bringing them along for trips to the hardware store.
Those who knew Jeremiah will remember his generous heart, his quick wit, and the way he could brighten any room. He was the kind of neighbor who always offered a helping hand and the kind of friend who made everyone feel welcome. Whether speaking with lifelong friends or strangers on the street, he had a gift for making people laugh and feel at ease.
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 20, at 1:00 p.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church, 16801 Huebner Rd, San Antonio, Texas, with a reception to follow. Guests are kindly asked to honor Jeremiah’s joyful spirit by wearing colors rather than traditional black attire.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jeremiah’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org) or Fisher House Foundation (fisherhouseinc.org), organizations that support service members and families.
Jeremiah’s life was one of service, compassion, energy, and strength. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the patients he cared for, the soldiers he led, and the many lives he touched.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
