

Jerry Neland Barnes went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 11, 2021, in Cedar Park, Texas at the age of 78. He was born at the Nix Hospital in San Antonio, Texas on April 16, 1942. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Irene Eilert and Robert Hanson Barnes, two brothers Bob Barnes, James Barnes, and two sisters, Ann Benfor and Doreen Barnes.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Bonnie Barnes, twin brother Terry Barnes and his wife Carolyn, two daughters, Lori Barnes and Tammie Wainner and one son, Frank Barnes; ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Jerry and Bonnie resided in Cedar Park and were members of Anderson Mill Baptist Church of Austin, Texas. Jerry retired from the construction industry in 2008 after working in the industry for more than 50 years. He worked for prominent companies including Flintco, Stoddard Construction Co., Contemporary Constructors, and D.J. Rheiner on many projects spanning the south Texas area. Notable projects included The Hemisphere Plaza, Buckhorn Saloon, the Majestic Theater, North Star Mall, the Cavender Oldsmobile Dealership, Lone Star Brewery, churches, schools, hospitals, and various government buildings.
Jerry believed in hard work and had a no-nonsense work ethic, however, among his friends and family, Jerry is best remembered as an avid joker and comic. When Jerry and Bonnie lived in Bulverde from (1976-2013) they belonged to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bulverde where they developed life-long relationships with a tight-knit group of friends, including Denny and Nancy Williams, Laura and Buzz Heye, Chuck and Sharon Knibbe, Charles and Joyce Urban, and Bobbie and David Everhardt. Bonnie and Jerry also attended Bulverde Baptist Church and Anderson Mill Baptist Church where they made many more close friends and special bonds among their brothers and sisters in the faith.
