

Born April 22, 1933, to Alden Lee & Audrey Florence (Johnston) Higginson in Mount Vernon, IL. After graduating from MVTHS, in 1951, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean War from 1951-1955, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant in Japan.
Upon returning to Mount Vernon, he married Beverly Joyce York on April 24, 1955, whom he knew since 1st grade, she survives at home. They have two children.
Jerry was employed in civil engineering at Moldovan & Associates in Salem, Illinois, he retired from ACCO in 1982. In 1982 he relocated to San Antonio to start a new career with Valero Energy Pipeline Division as a Designer and retired in 1998.
An avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, since age 3, Jerry often took the family to games. He had a passion for and participated in many sports, lettering in Track his Jr & Sr years of high school. Jerry enjoyed coaching his grandsons’ baseball teams, becoming known as “Grandpa” to all of the players.
A talented artist, Jerry sketched since childhood and often gifted family and friends with pictures, even while battling advanced Parkinson's. He was active in the Community of Christ Church as an Elder serving over 60 years.
As a descendent of John and Priscilla Alden, Jerry was a member of the Sons of American Revolution, The Mayflower Society, and Alden Kindred of America.
Survived by his greatest loves and achievements, the proud father to his sons Michael Allynn & (Brenda) Higginson, Jerry Alden & (Leah) Higginson Jr., of San Antonio. He was blessed with five grandchildren: Jeremy & (Sara) Higginson; Dawn & (Adan) Davila; Eric Higginson of San Antonio; Sara & (Matthew) Gallion of San Jose, CA; and Jon Higginson of San Antonio. Great-grandchildren: Joshua, Joseph, Jayden, & Samantha Higginson; Victoria and Dannielle Davila of San Antonio; and Hayden Gallion of San Jose. He is also survived by his sister, Judy Ann & (Larry) Mahan of Live Oak, FL as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Ray D Gordon; and one sister, Ortus Lee and (Roger) Dunbar.
For the past 15 years he has battled Parkinson’s Disease. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Visitation will be held at Sunset Memorial on Austin Hwy on January 25, 2022 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
Service and interment will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio on January 26, 2022.
