

Col. (Ret.) Jerry M. Johnson passed away at the age of 83 on Saturday, July 26, 2014. He was born on October 23, 1930 to Charles and Lillian Johnson in Miller, Missouri. Jerry met the love of his life, Janet Taylor, in Kinston, North Carolina in 1953. She remained his soulmate for the remainder of his life. He had a distinguished Air Force career for over 35 years. He served in Vietnam and was a veteran of 284 combat missions over Southeast Asia and a command pilot with more than 6,200 flying hours. Noteworthy awards include the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star Medal, 2 Meritorious Service Medals, and 15 Air Medals. He retired as the Commander of Air Force Cryptologic Support Center, Kelly AFB in 1983.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lillian Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Jan, and their three sons: Jerry Jr. and wife, Brenda; Mark and girlfriend, Debra; Scott and wife, Joanne; and his grandchildren Jerry III and wife, Courtney; Jordan and Brianna; Andrea Beaston and husband, Jeff, Stephanie, John Michael and wife, Jennifer; Philip and Elise, and four great grandchildren.
His passion for flying and the love of his country was only surpassed by the love for his family. Donations in Jerry Johnson's name may be made to the charity of your choice.
A private memorial service will be held graveside at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors.
