

He touched countless lives during his life journey. He often said he was abundantly blessed.
He was a humble & compassionate soul, kind, considerate, generous, and soft spoken. A brilliant mind, passionate, had a caring heart, beautiful smile, dry sense of humor and a strong and resilient man to the very end.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Sesco & Daisy Hooks Sesco; brother, Joseph T. Sesco & sister, Gloria Jean Sesco Lee; daughter, Ashely Elizabeth Sesco and beloved son- in- law of Henry Jack Pytel, Sr. & Celia A. Pytel & brother in- law, William A, Pytel.
While his body may be gone his spirit lives on in the lives of his devoted wife & soulmate, Christine A. Pytel, daughter Robin S. Johnson (Michael), granddaughter Meredith J. Ferguson, (William Lee III), grandson Matthew Johnson, great-grandson, Bennett Samuel Ferguson, sister- in- law, Johnnie Sesco, and brother-in-law, Henry Jack Pytel.
Jerry had a huge capacity to love which he extended to his numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces & great nephews and to his three goddaughters.
He pursued his university studies at the University Of Georgia (Bachelor of Science Forestry). Auburn University (Master of Science Forestry) & Southern Illinois University (PhD Economics).
He spent his entire professional career with the USDA Forest Service. He started as a Forester at Talladega National Forest in Tuscaloosa, AL. Additional tours of duty in Carbondale, IL, Ogden, UT, Asheville, NC and Washington, D.C. Most of his career was spent in research. Ending his 36-year career at the highest level of leadership as deputy chief for research.
Jerry had many interests;Exercising, staying fit & eating healthy. He relished his walking & running (11 marathons, countless ½ marathons & 5-10K races). Taking guitar lessons & Spanish lessons (Tequila was his favorite Spanish word, earning him the nickname of Cabo Wabo.) He enjoyed gardening, listening to all genres of music, poetry writing, stints at acting and as a print model, and traveling (domestic & foreign). His reunions with his 5 other high school “Georgia boys” where much reminiscing, “lies” told & much laughter lifted their spirits.
His achievements too numerous to detail. A few of his crowning achievements - attained Eagle Scout rank; his impact on providing world class science for the Forest Service and his leadership role in diversifying the Forest Service and research workforce.
Jerry... fought the good fight to the end,He ran the race to the finish line,He kept the Faith. 2 Timothy 4:7
So, as we say one final goodbye to Jerry, let us remember his infectious smile, boundless love, and unwavering dedication to his spouse, Christine, his children, his extended family and his dear friends.
Sleep well, Jerry and may your melody guide us and your spirit live through us.
The family will receive friends for visitation at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, beginning at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 9, 2024.
