Jesse Ellison Brown Jr., age 64, of San Antonio, Texas, departed from this world on Monday, March 11, 2024, after valiantly confronting acute leukemia. He graced our lives with his presence since his birth in Charleston, West Virginia, on September 18, 1959.
A scholar and a caregiver, Jesse excelled academically and professionally. Ever since he removed a doorknob at the age of 2, showcasing his innate knack for craftsmanship, Jesse demonstrated an extraordinary aptitude for working with his hands. He emerged from Douglas MacArthur High School in 1977 and later distinguished himself at The Baptist Health System School of Health Professions, graduating at the pinnacle of his class in 1993 with an associate degree in nursing. His commitment to healing led him to serve admirably as an operating room nurse at Southeast Baptist Hospital for numerous years, where his skill was matched only by his quick wit and understated humor. Jesse found joy in enriching the lives of those around him by eliciting laughter with his sharp intellect and subtle wit. Jesse's compassionate nature extended beyond his care for humans as he had a deep love for animals as well, often finding solace and joy in their company. He was especially fond of cats, delighting in their independent spirits and playful antics. Jesse's love for animals was unmistakable and added another dimension to his vibrant personality. His humor and goodwill left an indelible mark on both the people and animals he encountered, forever remembered for the depth of his impact on those around him.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and fond memories. Jesse is survived by his devoted parents, Mary (Inghram) and Jesse Brown Sr.; cherished sisters Mindy Coyne (Greg) and Jennifer Reynard (Dan); beloved nephew Daniel Scarbrough (Andria) and adored nieces Molly Ilse (Russell), Sydney Reynard, and Lauren Reynard, along with 2 great nieces and 1 great nephew.
In honor of Jesse's compassionate spirit, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, serving as a beacon of hope in his memory.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the funeral service, to be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Park, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218. Jesse's light may have dimmed in this world, but his warmth and kindness will continue to illuminate the hearts of all who knew him.
