

Jesse served in the US Army from 1950 to 1972 in the Corps of Engineers. He is a veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam War. He also served his country with two tours in Thailand, three tours in Vietnam, France, Germany and Greenland. He received a Bronze Star while in Korea, the Army Commendation Medal, Humanitarian Award, Vietnam Campaign in which he served at least 5 of the 29 different Campaigns and other commendations for his service. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army never left him.
After leaving military service, he went to work for the City of San Antonio, utilizing what he learned in the Corps of Engineers as a City Inspector. He retired from the city after 27 years. Upon retiring Jesse and Verline enjoyed traveling with Avis and Eddie Skura (Verline’s sister and her husband). He enjoyed having his grandchildren and great grandchildren around—watching them grow up and become successful in their own chosen fields.
He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings Eva, Letha, Lillie, Cecil, and Johnny; and daughter in law, Mary. Jesse is survived by his loving wife, Verline Garcia; daughter, Sharolyn Grammer and husband Charlie; sons, Ronald R. Garcia and wife Rhonda, and Michael L. Garcia and wife Patricia; grandchildren, Ryan Grammer and wife Shelby, Elizabeth Booker and husband Russell, Jason Garcia, Samantha Morici and husband Lawrence, Joshua M. Garcia and wife Destiny, and Sarah P. Garcia; great grandchildren, Johnathan M. Garcia, Hayden B. Booker, Dwain S. Booker, Rose Marie Morici, Sophia Quinn Grammer, Olivia Grace Grammer, Everleigh Ray Garcia and Presley Beau Garcia.
