Jesse Henry Miller, age 96, passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on November 4, 1929 in McCook, Nebraska to Jesse F. and Katherine Lukas Miller. Jesse’s parents, two older brothers, Archie F. and Lloyd J. Miller, and several cousins predeceased him.
Jesse grew up on a farm in rural Frontier Country, Nebraska. He attended a one-room country school during his elementary years and rode a horse 2½ miles to school each day in all kinds of weather. He attended the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis during his high school years, where he boarded during the week and returned home on weekends (weather permitting). After graduation, he enrolled on a scholarship at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
He was a voracious reader all of his life until his eyesight began to fail, and loved puns, classic cars and traveling the world.
During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. In 1959, Jesse married Val Jeanne Leiner and two children were born to this marriage: Cheryl Anne Howell and David Paul Miller.
Both before and after his service, he worked at the Omaha National Bank and attended night school to complete his college degree at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, attending various schools in banking and finance. A Chartered Financial Analyst, Jesse spent most of his career in banking and finance, retiring from Frost Bank in 1999 as a vice president. He was active in several professional organizations, having been President of the Omaha Chapter of the American Institute of Banking, and President of the Austin-San Antonio Society of Financial Analysts. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of San Antonio, and served as Treasurer of the Girl Scouts Council, San Antonio region.
Jesse is survived by his loving wife, Val Miller; daughter, Cheryl Howell (Tim); son, David P. Miller; granddaughters, Angela Haley Miller and Jordan Leigh Miller; niece, Becky Curnutt; nephew Joe Miller; and several cousins.
A Rosary will take place at 9:30am on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 8134 Blanco Rd, with a Mass to follow at 10:00am.
Entombment will take place at 2:00pm in Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN), Texas Public Radio or the local PBS station KLRN.
