I met Jesse many years ago when I worked at 
JCPennys. Thought about him many times over the years and prayed for him during his struggle with cancer. Wish our paths had crossed in recent years but now I will picture him painting sunsets for God. Love Mary Evans

Jesse and I sat next to each other throughout elementary school because his last name was Trevino and mine is Valenzuela. One of our teachers, Mr. Joe Bernal, instilled in us a sense of self-worth, that we mattered, that our thoughts and feelings were important, and that we should fight to express ourselves to the world. 

I first became aware of Jesse's artistic talent when our class was challenged to draw a cover page for our elementary school newsletter. Jesse won and I didn't, even though I thought I was a pretty good artist. I envied and admired him from that day on. 

The significance of that event is that it marked the time when we, Jesse and I and other students, learned that we mattered and could make a difference by finding our skills and talents, developing them, and using them to share what we cared about, felt and thought with the rest of the world. That's what Jesse did with his life through his art. And that is why we admire and miss him.
 
I like to think that the recognition and validation Jesse received when he won the drawing competition for the cover of the Crockett Elementary School newsletter in the late 1950's, marked the moment when he first realized he had a unique gift and could use it to express himself to the world. And, I like to think that the sense of self-value and the importance of expressing what we feel and think that Mr. Joe Bernal instilled in us, helped Jesse get past his VietNam war injuries to find a way to once again express himself and make a difference in our lives. Thank you Jesse for enriching our lives.

My sincere condolences & sympathy to the Trevino family. It was Jesse who inspired me to become an unknown artist in my life. I paint and draw because he inspired me! I saw his works and I said to my self, I want to be like Jesse someday and continue his legacy! I too grew up in the WEST SIDE!

Although I didn't know Jessie personally, I met him on several occasions and was overwhelmed by his bravery in his defense of our country in Vietnam as a member of the military. Not to mention his God given talent as an artist and his contributions to the city of San Antonio. Later I found out that I went to school with his brother Juan Trevino years ago. May you rest in peace my military brother and my condolences to you family in your passing.

I never met him yet I knew him. He was the type of person you want to know and learn from. He remains in all he did, which was a lot of love in and for San Antonio and his community. God bless him and his family.

Jesse was a classmate from Irving.  He was very talented not only in art, but sports and class work.  He was kind and giving.  His success was due to his resilience, passion, empathy, conscientiousness, openness to experience, and social skills. Jesse was one of a kind! My condolences to his family.  Isaias Ortiz
