Jo Ann Bragg Schwab passed away on September 23, 2025, at the age of 92. Jo Ann was born on September 29, 1932, in Harlingen, Texas, to parents Larry and Marie Powers. She graduated from Incarnate Word University, where she received a bachelor’s degree. Jo Ann traveled the world with her first husband, Walter T. Bragg, Sr. and their six children during his 20 years of service in the Army. When they settled in San Antonio, she taught at Walzem Elementary School and El Dorado Elementary School. She enjoyed 23 years of watching children discover the magic of the world when she taught them reading, science, history and math.
Jo Ann married the love of her life, William “Bill” Bernard Schwab on June 26, 1987. They enjoyed making friends, dancing, traveling, fishing, and sharing their faith in God as parishioners at St. Helena’s Catholic Church. She even learned how to use an e-reader to be able to continue her passion for reading during the Covid lockdown. Jo Ann loved watching each of her children find a different interest and path in life and supported their endeavors.
Jo Ann is survived by her children, Debbie Bragg (Michael Krebs), Alice Bragg, Judy Bragg (Willie Meznarich), Denise Rose (Jim Rose), Tom Bragg (Beth Fisher), and Larry Bragg (Phyllis Scrivano); her two grandchildren, Jordan Rose and Colleen Perez (Zito Perez) and two great-grandchildren, Lola and Zoie Perez; her stepchildren, Charla Sartain (Dennis), Jason Schwab (Karen), and Sabrina Porter (Joel); and many nieces and nephews. Jo Ann is predeceased by her husband, William Bernard Schwab, her grandson, Ian Rose, her parents, Larry and Marie Powers, her brothers Pat, Mike and Charlie Powers, and her sisters, Mary Margaret Powers and Jean Casey.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, October 9, 2025, from 5:00 to 6:00 PM, with the Rosary to immediately follow at 6:00 PM at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 N. Loop 1604 E, San Antonio, TX 78232.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 10, 2025, at St. Helena's Catholic Church, 14714 Edgemont St., San Antonio, TX 78247 with graveside service immediately following at Holy Cross Cemetery, 17501 Nacogdoches Rd, San Antonio, TX 78266.
Pallbearers will be Tom Bragg, Willie Meznarich, Therese Casey and Greg Powers. Honorary Pallbearers are Michael Krebs, Larry Bragg and Richard Powers.
